Denmark Super Series: Sindhu loses

ODENSE: Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu lost to Sayaka Sato of Japan in women’s singles to draw curtains on Indian campaign at Denmark Super Series premier. Sindhu went down fighting 13-21, 23-21, 18-21 to World No. 12 Sato in a second round match. It was a bad day for India at Denmark as Ajay Jayaram and H S Prannoy also suffered losses in the second round of men’s singles competitio­n. Jayaram fought lost 21-23 15-21 to Shi Yuqi of China, while Prannoy lost 10-21 20-22 to top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in a gruelling contest.

INDIA WIN 10-2 IN ASIAN CHAMPIONS TROPHY

KUANTAN (MALAYSIA): Rupinder Pal Singh scored six goals as India began their men’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament with a 10-2 win over Japan on Thursday. Ramandeep Singh opened the scoring floodgates in the second minute of the match. Rupinder then took over the mantle, netting in the ninth, 12th, 17th, 22nd, 46th,

KYRGIOS PULLS OUT OF CELEBRITY GAME

AMSTERDAM: Australian Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of the Rotterdam Open in February to play in basketball’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, tournament director Richard Krajicek said.

Kyrgios was handed an eight-week ban for his antics at the Shanghai Masters where he clashed with fans and the chair umpire. “You see what can happen when he is tired and (tennis) has little meaning, as in China. We do not want that. So we decided to terminate his contract,”

Krajicek said.
