Traders in state seek security, students worried over exams

-

ROHTAK:As the ongoing protest of Jats in the state intensifies, traders who bore heavy losses during the quota stir in February last year have sought security from the administration as they fear recurrence of violence in the coming days.

The state had witnessed largescale violence last year when mobs robbed private properties and set them on fire.

In Bhiwani, a traders’ association held a meeting on Saturday wherein they asked the administration to give them security. “There is anxiety and worry among us. If anything goes wrong, the government will be responsible for it and even we will not sit quiet,” association’s president Vijay Bansal said.

The association said their businesses were suffering due to the internet ban imposed by the government. “If we don’t feel relaxed and safe, how will we do business?” asked Rajkumar, another trader leader.

A similar fear has gripped the minds of students who are going through their board exams.

On Monday, when Jats have threatened to take out their ‘Delhi march’, Class-12 students of CBSE are schedluled to appear in their mathematics exam.

As the Jat community has threatened to take over all major state and national highways with their tractor-trailers, students are worried as to how they will reach their exam centres if the protesters start blocking road.
