Mother-son who sheltered Honeypreet held in Bathinda

PANCHKULA: A mother-son duo who had sheltered Honeypreet, the “adopted” daughter of jailed head of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim, for arrested by the Panchkula police on Monday from Jangirana village near Bathinda for sheltering in their home for at least one week. It was from here that Honeypreet went to Delhi to file anticipato­ry bail in the Delhi high court.

Accused Saranjit Kaur and her son Gurmeet Singh were arrested in a raid along with under Sections 345 (wrongful confinemen­t of the person wanted by police) and 216 (harbouring offender whose arrest has been ordered) of IPC.

They duo had gone undergroun­d when the police raided their home last week along with Honeypreet, who is now in judicial custody since Friday. Honeypreet was arrested on October 3 for inciting violence in Panchkula on August 25 after conviction of Ram Rahim by the CBI court here.

Panchkula police commission­er AS Chawla said the mother-son duo were arrested after the police had enough evidence to prove that Honeypreet stayed in their house .

Sources said Honeypreet was taken to Saranjit’s home by her aide Sukhdeep Kaur, who was arrested along with Honeypreet.

Sources said there are at least 8-9 other people who are under scanner. BABA’S CLOSE AIDE HELD IN RAJASTHAN Sources also told HT that they have also arrested Gopal Bansal, a resident of Rajasthan’s Hanumangar­h district for inciting violence in Panchkula.

ANOTHER UT COP HELD The police on Monday also arrested head constable Labh Singh of the Chandigarh police for his suspected involvemen­t in the escape bid of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim Singh on August 25 after his conviction in two rape cases by the CBI court in Panchkula. Police sources said the accused was leaking informatio­n to the dera officials about the police positions and helped them identify various points of possible exit routes.
