Car snatched from brick-kiln manager

JALANDHAR: Three bike-borne armed assailants snatched a Maruti Swift car from manager of a brick-kiln at Rampur village, 12km from Lambra, on Monday night.

Ravi Masih of Chitti village, manager of a brick-kiln at Banwalipur village, said the masked men on a motorcycle followed him and broke the windshield of his car.

Two of them overpowere­d Masih and pushed him on the back seat and took to the wheel, while the third one rode the motorcycle.

Masih said that assailants pushed him off the car after a few kilometres. They also took away his two mobiles phones.

The police have registered a case under Sections 379-B (snatching) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentifi­ed assailants.

The police said they were scanning the CCTV footage of the area. Before snatching Masih’s car, the assailants also looted cash from liquor vend, the police said. 2 HELD FOR ROBBING MONEY CHANGER,

3 FOR STEALING CAR AMRITSAR: Police on Tuesday arrested two men who allegedly snatched a bag containing foreign currency worth ₹7 lakh from owner of a money exchange firm at Butala village, Beas, on September 29.

The accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, and Jagjit Singh. The accused had fired a gunshot on Sarabjit Singh’s leg.

The accused were held during a special checking.

The accused tried to flee after seeing the cops but were nabbed. The cops have also recovered a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The police have also arrested three assailants accused of snatching a car at gunpoint.

The accused, identified as Dharampal Singh, Gurjant Singh and Hardeep Singh, allegedly snatched Toyota Innova at Jabboval village, Tarsikka, Amritsar, on October 14.

The accused were booked following a complaint by Pritam Singh, owner of the vehicle.

The police have recovered three pistols, along with 26 live cartridges, from the accused.
