3 gangsters, aide arrested with arms, stolen vehicles

Two of the accused had killed a suspended head constable earlier in October in a revenge crime

AMRITSAR: The rural police of Amritsar on Tuesday arrested four gangsters including Simranjit Singh and Sunny Dhawan, who had allegedly killed suspended head constable Baljinder Singh alias Kalu on October 4 near Friends Avenue on Majitha Road.

The other two accused were identified as Jaskaran Singh and Rohit Kumar.

Inspector general of police (IGP) Surinder Pal Singh said that police recovered four weapons including two country-made pistols and two .32 bore pistols along with 20 cartridges from the accused.

A Verna car and two motorcycle­s were also recovered from their possession.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Parampal Singh said the police had a tip-off that the accused had assembled in a house in Hariyan village. “When our team reached the house, the accused opened fire on us. After a brief exchange, we nabbed the accused,” the SSP said.

Accused Jaskaran Singh also confessed to have killed his neighbour Sagar on October 12, 2016, the case of which was registered at Sadar police station in Amritsar.

However, the police said that Rohit Kumar was booked for the first time. Attempt to murder charges have been slapped against the accused for opening fire on the police besides charges under relevant sections of the Arms Act. The case has been lodged at Kathunanga­l police station.

Simranjit and Sunny had allegedly pumped 10 bullets into suspended cop Baljinder on October 4 this year. He was suspended after a department­al inquiry.

The victim was the father of gangster Shubham, who had fled from police custody in Amritsar two months ago and had several criminal cases registered against him.

A REVENGE CRIME Shubham had allegedly killed Hardev Singh, father of accused Simranjit, last year. Hardev used to run a tavern on Majitha Road.
