ROHTAK : Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry on Friday addressed a rally in Rohtak, the bastion of their arch-rival and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The rally, called Sushasan Lao Haryana Bachao, was organised by senior Congress leader and former state home minister Subhash Batra.

The Congress leaders attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for burning Haryana during the Jat agitation in 2016 and the dera violence this year.

“The law and order in Haryana is in a shambles. Traders bore the brunt of Gabbar Singh Tax (referring to Goods and Service Tax or GST). Every section of the society is tired of the BJP and is eagerly waiting for elections to throw them out,” Choudhry said while addressing the gathering.

The Congress leaders also slammed the BJP government’s controversial elevated road project in Rohtak, the construction of which in the middle of the city has been causing problems to the residents and commuters. “The project was unnecessary. The BJP started it to divert funds in their personal accounts,” Batra said.

Interestingly, the former chief minister and his MP son Deepender were not invited to take part in the Congress rally in their own stronghood.

During the rally, Tanwar and Kiran said their preference of giving assembly election ticket in 2019 from Rohtak will be Subhash Batra. Whether they succeed in deciding ticket distribution in Hooda’s bastion will be interesting to watch.
