100km/day for 5 months: BSF’S ultra run begins

AMRITSAR: : Marathon runner Samir Singh and his team of six runners began ‘Bharat Ke Veer Ultra Marathon-2017’ on Friday morning from Attari-wagah internatio­nal border to commemorat­e the martyrs. The marathon was sponsored by bollywood star Akshay Kumar. It was flagged off by JS Oberoi, DIG, Border Security Force (BSF) from Joint Check Post (JCP), Attari in the presence of BSF officers and jawans on 52nd anniversar­y of BSF Raising Day.

Samir hails from Kanaheda village, Mandsaur district , Madhya Pardesh. He started running at the age of 35 and discovered his interest in long distance running.

The runners will cover a distance of approximat­ely 15,663 kms along the land borders and coastline of India. “The marathon will pass through 24 states and seven Union Territorie­s (approximat­ely through 1,000 cities and villages),” said Samir.

He said that his team will run approximat­ely 100 kms daily. It will take five months to complete the run. “The marathon will finish at JCP Attari Amritsar tentativel­y on April 1, next year. Route for first leg will cover Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Abohar in Punjab,”he added.

DIG Oberoi said, “For the first time, such marathon will take place where the team will run more than 10,000 kms to honour soldiers for their service to society and country.”

“The BSF is extending full support for this event and will provide assistance to runners.,” he added.
