JALANDHAR : As the model code of conduct has come into effect, the Jalandhar municipal corporation (MC) has started the process of giving the non-objection certificates (NOCS) to the ones who are interested in the upcoming civic body elections.

The certificate states that for getting NOC, individuals have to clear the pending arrears of property tax, house tax and water and sewerage charges.

In addition, a candidate should also have the building plan clearance certificate of his or her property, if any with municipal corporation .

In case of no possession of property by the candidate, they had to declare the same with municipal Corporation.

People on Thursday thronged MC office to get NOC, for filling up their candidature for polls scheduled on December 17.

Superintendent property tax department Maheep Sareen said that since Wednesday, the civic body has received over ₹4 lakh as property tax from people who came to clear their bills to get NOC. Superintendent water rate Raj Kumar said that since Thursday, as many as 200 people visited the department to clear their dues. “The last date for getting NOC from the MC is December 6,” he added.

An MC official said they have received 319 applications, out of which 238 has been released by the department.
