Newlywed woman, grandmothe­r killed in Phagwara mishap

A SPEEDING MAHINDRA BOLERO COLLIDED WITH VICTIMS’ CAR AT JAGJEETPUR­A VILLAGE ON FRIDAY EVENING

PHAGWARA: A newly married woman and her grandmothe­r died in a road accident near Jagjeetpur­a village here on Friday evening.

Deceased were identified as Rainuka, 25 her grandmothe­r Krishna Devi, 68. Her husband, Kunal Khanna , 27, sustained serious injuries in the mishap.

They were the residents of Ludhiana and returning from Hoshiarpur after taking Rainuka from her parents house.

As per the police, a speeding Mahindra Bolero had a head on collision with their Maruti 800 car.

The collision was so strong that car got damaged and caught fire after the accident.

Police said that both Rainuka and her grandmothe­r Krishna Devi died on the spot.

While Kunal who was driving the car got critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Phagwara hospital.

Inquiry officer, assistant subinspect­or (ASI) Bharat Bhushan said that Kunal's father Suresh Khanna and other family members were also coming from Hoshiarpur but they were in another car.

He said that Bolero car driver fled from the spot.

A case in this regard will be registered on the basis of statement of the injured.

Family said that Kunal and Rainuka tied knot on Wednesday.
