Cong drubbed in Rahul’s Amethi

LUCKNOW : Besides winning 14 of 16 mayoral seats across the state, the BJP has been able to make a dent in urban local bodies in Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

With the Congress not winning any seat in its bastion, the poll outcome is being considered a major setback for the party. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath led the attacks on Gandhi.

“Those talking of winning Gujarat have not been able to win in their own area,” he said, speaking to reporters at the UP BJP headquarters here.

The BJP won the Amethi Nagar Panchayat and the Jais Nagar Palika seats. An Independent won in Musafirkhana Nagar Panchayat. The Samajwadi Party was able to score a victory in newly created Gauruganj Nagar Panchayat. Salon went to an Independent. The Congress claimed the party had supported the winner.

“We had not fielded any candidate in Amethi, so there is no question of losing the seat. A Congress supported candidate has won the seat in Salon,” said District Congress Committee president Yogendra Mishra.

Meanwhile, the Congress won the Rae Bareli Nagar Palika chairperson’s post in the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The Samajwadi Party won in Unchahar and Lalganj. The BJP won in Maharajganj. Independents won Bachhrawan and Dalmau seats.
