Finance firm in Panipat looted, staff claim ₹3crore gold gone

KARNAL: In a broad daylight robbery, three unidentifi­ed miscreants looted the Sanauli road, Panipat, branch of private finance company, India Infoline Finance Limited (IIFL), of all its gold and Rs 2.45 lakh after holding the staff hostage at gunpoint about 10.45m on Monday.

The three miscreants had their faces covered and entered the office that had only two employees and a sweeper at the time and tied them with a rope at gunpoint. They got cashier, Sonia, to give them the keys of the locker that contained all the gold and decamped. They also took away the recorder of the CCTVS.

The firm had not deployed any guard. Branch manager Sunial Bisla is on leave. Cashier Sonia, clerk Bharat Bhushan and sweeper Mukesh Devi were present in the branch at the time of the robbery.

DSP Panipat Jagdeep Doon said, “Employees have informed us that the gold that was looted had been collateral for around ₹ 2.85 crore loan. We are procuring CCTV footage of cameras in the locality.”

Karnal SP Jashandeep Randhawa, who is the officiatin­g in-charge of Panipat, said four teams had been formed to crack the case.

On a complaint from IIFL employees, the police have registered a case under section 390 (robbery) of IPC and the Arms Act against unidentifi­ed people.
