HISAR: A day after a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer ended his life at his farmhouse, his relative was booked for abetment to suicide.

Ram Singh Bishnoi had on Sunday shot himself with his licenced gun at Kharampur village of the district.

A case has been registered under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against Devi Lal of Adampur based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother Ram Rai. Bishnoi was embroiled in a legal case with the brother of his daughter’s father-in-law, Devi Lal.

Bishnoi had left his Gurugram residence on Sunday morning to attend a community meet in Kurukshetra. “He did leave for Kurukshetra, but went to Sadalpur to meet his relatives. Later, he went to his farmhouse at Kharampur and committed suicide,” claimed a source close to Bishnoi family.

The source added that the retired officer was upset over a case filed against him by Devi Lal.

Hisar deputy superintendent of police Sidharth Dhanda said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a suicide case. We are investigating and the accused will be arrested soon.”

Bishnoi had received a Police Medal for distinguished services in 2009 and was given President’s Police Medal in 2015. Bishnoi began his police career in 1971. The Haryana government later promoted him as an IPS officer.
