Amu complains of chest pain, hospitalis­ed Padmaavat violence: Four sent to police remand, 13 get bail

GURGAON: Suraj Pal Amu, a leader of fringe group Shri Karni Sena leader and a vocal critic of the film Padmaavat, was referred to PGI, Rohtak on Monday after he complained of chest pain and high blood pressure while in jail. His judicial custody was also extended for three days and he will be produced before the DCP, headquarte­r, on February 2, the police said.

The Gurgaon police on Monday also identified the president of Karni Sena in Gurgaon, who incidental­ly had been taken into preventive custody and sent to Bhondsi jail. The leader was identified as Devender Singh, a resident of Bhondsi village. Police said he was found to be involved in the Bhondsi bus burning and the stoning of a school bus.

“He has been taken on a production warrant from Bhondsi jail and has been remanded in five-day police custody,” Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police, said.

Amu, who has been detained by the police and kept in Bhondsi jail, was admitted to the Civil Hospital Gurgaon on Sunday night after he complained of chest pain and his blood pressure shot up. He was kept under observatio­n till 4pm after which doctors referred him to PGI, Rohtak, a multi-specialty hospital.

The police kept the Rashtryia Rajput Karni Sena leader away from his family members and they were also not allowed to meet him. Mediaperso­ns were also kept at bay by a large police team, which surrounded Amu. He was picked up from his apartment on MG Road on Thursday while he was on a live debate on a television news channel.

Health officials at the Civil Hospital said that based on his echocardio­gram (ECG) report, Amu was referred to PGI, Rohtak.

Sources in the police department, however, said that as soon as he is discharged, he would be taken on a production warrant by the Sohna police to investigat­e his role in the burning of the state bus and other incidents of violence that took place last Wednesday.

The attack on the school bus by a group of protesters came as a major embarrassm­ent. GURGAON: Four persons arrested in connection with Padmaavat violence were taken on remand on Monday by the Gurgaon police so that they could be questioned with regard to the planning and execution of the violence that broke out on Sohna Road in Bhondsi, Raheja mall and in other parts of the city.

Those taken on remand include two accused persons arrested in connection with the Silani Morh incident in Sohna and two others in connection with the violence that broke out in Raheja Mall.

One of the accused, identified as Harinder Singh alias Tinku, is the Rewari district chief of Karni Sena and is said to be an important member of the organisati­on in this area. He was arrested by the special investigat­ion team constitute­d by the Gurgaon police to probe the incidents of violence centering around the release of the film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. These incidents kept the police on their toes since Wednesday.

Another accused, who has been taken into police custody, was identified as Lakhan alias Kalu. He was a arrested in connection with the vandalism in Sohna along with Tinku, another accused. “Both of them will be questioned with regard to the violent incidents and also on the others involved. Tinku and Kalu were among the six persons arrested for the Silani Morh incident in Sohna,” Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police, said.

One of the accused in Raheja mall incident, identified as Rohit alias Cobra, a resident of Begumpur Khatola, surrendere­d before the Sadar police station on Sunday. He was a produced before a court on Monday along with co-accused Roshan.
