CASHLESS ECONOMY

-

Modi is exhorting people to go for cashless economy to counter corruption. While his campaign is working to an extent at the ground level, it does not seem to be effective in the air! Last fortnight, I had a chance to travel by three domestic airlines — Go Air, Air Asia and Jet Airways — from Mohali to Mumbai to Goa. None of these airlines were in a position to process my debit/ credit card as their swipe machines were either out of order or had run short of printing papers. The PM’S campaign cannot succeed without active public support.

Dr BN Anand, Mohali Guha (HT, Jan 28) is based on what Mahatma Gandhi thought and said in his speeches. It was Mohammad Ali Jinnah who pushed the two-nation theory, which was finally accepted by Gandhi. Gandhi never sided with Hindus, though they were the worst sufferers. In the post-independence era, historians glorified the Nehru family, giving it the credit of bringing freedom to the country. If the present government now tries to glorify the real heroes, what is wrong in it? Guha is unduly pained over the government’s attempt to correct history, which was distorted.

RL Bansal, Kurukshetra Effective measures must be adopted to prevent scams in all government departments. Rahul Gandhi questions Modi on various scams, but he must ensure that the states ruled by the Congress are scam-free. Only then his campaign will bear fruit in the coming elections.
