AAP wants to felicitate Trudeau, seeks time

CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday decided to felicitate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his forthcomin­g visit to the country from February 17-23.

The party wants to felicitate him for recognisin­g the social and political contributi­on made by the Punjabi community, especially the Sikhs, towards the Canadian people.

In a letter to the Canadian Prime Minister, leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira has invited him and his team to a felicitati­on function that the party had planned.

“Your government in Canada has done the Punjabi community, especially the Sikhs, proud by recognisin­g their socio-political contributi­on towards the Canadian people,” he said, extending the invite to him on behalf of the party legislator­s.

Trudeau’s visit includes stops in Agra, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi. The

AAP extended the invitation even as there is no clarity on whether chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh will be in the welcoming party during the Canadian PM’S visit to the Golden Temple.

Khaira took the chance to express his gratitude for the magnanimit­y shown by the Canadian government in expressing regret over the unfortunat­e Komagata Maru incident.
