Two constructi­on workers killed as mud wall collapses in Gurgaon

GURGAON: Two workers were buried alive when a large portion of the earth wall caved in at a constructi­on site in Hailey Mandi town of Pataudi, some 30km from Gurgaon.

The incident took place around 4pm, when the duo were removing mud from a 10-foot deep and 15-foot-wide trench that was being dug along the main road to lay the sewage pipeline.

A case under section 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code was being registered against the contractor for causing death due to negligence, police said.

The two victims were identified as Attar Singh from Muradnagar and Bhola from Binaur, both in Uttar Pradesh.

Pataudi station house officer Surinder Singh said that as soon as they received informatio­n about the accident, a police team was rushed to the spot for the rescue operation.

Other constructi­on site workers and a police team dug franticall­y for 15 minutes and rushed the two men to a local hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

The police said the deceased were working on the constructi­on site of the sewage line. The work was being carried out by the public health department on the main road near the Hailey Mandi flyover. The large trench had been dug with a mechanical excavator and the two victims were working inside the pit when the accident took place, police said.
