Affected residents, meanwhile, starting calling the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) helpline numbers because of the power breakdown. Linemen soon reached the stretch to check for the fault.
“It was around 5.15am when we reached the electric pole. We saw the car had rammed into the pole after climbing the pavement. The pole was lying on the road, we shifted it to the side to avoid traffic congestion on the stretch,” said Jitender, a lineman of the DHBVN.
“We were repairing the cables when police officials came to inquire about the car. They told us to let them know if the car owner returned,” said Uday, another lineman.
The thieves, estimated to be aged between 30 and 35 years, stole the car parked in front of a house in Wazirabad village, Sector 52, said the police.
The car owners, meanwhile, found out their car had been stolen around 6.30am. They immediately called the police control room and informed police officials about the theft.
“The car had been parked outside the main gate, and we used the rear door in the morning. I realised the car was missing only after I went out after sending my children to school, because my husband had gone walking to drop them. I checked with my neighbours, but no one seemed to know anything, so I called the police control room and informed them of the theft,” said Sangeeta Solanki, the owner of the car.
Head constable Sandeep Kumar of Sector 53 police station, the investigating official said they received a call from the police control room around 6.50 am and rushed to the spot.“when they informed us of the car’s registration number, we realised it was the same car that was damaged in athe accident early morning,” said Kumar.
A case was registered under sections 379 (theft) and 427(causing damage) under the Indian Penal Code against the accused.
