HISAR/CHANDIGARH: A man hurled a black greasy oil-like substance at Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar in Hisar on Thursday evening, creating commotion at a public event and revealing chinks in his security.

Security personnel accompanying the chief minister caught hold of the man and then handed him over to police. “We have taken the man, identified as Parveen Kumar, into custody ,” Sanjay Kumar, Hisar range IG, said. His political links were yet to be ascertained, he added.

The incident happened at 5.50 pm near the forecourt of Devi Bhawan temple in Hisar when the CM was stepping inside the shrine, police said. A large part of the oily black substance fell on the security personnel, while some stains were visible on Khattar’s face, hair and clothes.

Unruffled by the incident, Khattar visited the temple, changed his dress and rode an open jeep along with finance minister Capt Abhimanyu.’

“Pictures of the arrested man with Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi are available. Behind this condemnable act are some desperate political people,” Rajiv Jain, CM’S media adviser, said. Police sources say the accused is a resident of Jakhodkhera village and shouted slogans ‘long live Tau Devi Lal’ — the late former deputy PM and father of ex-cm OP Chautala.

Blaming the Congress for the episode, INLD’S Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala said, “The accused was never associated with INLD. Check his FB profile. The accused was associated with HJC and is close to Bishnoi.”
