PATHANKOT: A woman was murdered and five members of her family were injured when some robbers allegedly struck at their residence at Aasa Bano village near Sujanpur town in Pathankot district late on Wednesday night.
In a complaint to police, Balwan Dass alleged that robbers attacked their family with sharpedged weapons, killing his mother Roop Rani, 45, and injuring five others, including himself. He claimed that the robbers took away cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh from their house.
Dass said their family, which hails from Haryana, has been living on the farm house of a Sujanpur resident, Anup Singh, for the past ten years and were engaged in pig farming.
Meanwhile, Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni told Hindustan Times that prima facie it does not seem to be case of robbery.
“The investigations are on. We will get a clear picture after taking statements of all members of the family. We are taking all aspects into consideration,” he added.
Meanwhile, Balwan Dass and other family members injured in the incident — identified as Ram Krishan, Dharamveer, Bhagwan Dass and Hari Ram — are being treated at Pathankot civil hospital and stated to be out of danger.
