‘Robbers’ kill woman, in­jure 5 in Pathankot

PATHANKOT: A woman was mur­dered and five mem­bers of her fam­ily were in­jured when some robbers al­legedly struck at their res­i­dence at Aasa Bano vil­lage near Su­jan­pur town in Pathankot dis­trict late on Wed­nes­day night.

In a com­plaint to po­lice, Bal­wan Dass al­leged that robbers at­tacked their fam­ily with sharpedged weapons, killing his mother Roop Rani, 45, and in­jur­ing five oth­ers, in­clud­ing him­self. He claimed that the robbers took away cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh from their house.

Dass said their fam­ily, which hails from Haryana, has been liv­ing on the farm house of a Su­jan­pur res­i­dent, Anup Singh, for the past ten years and were en­gaged in pig farm­ing.

Mean­while, Pathankot se­nior su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni told Hindustan Times that prima fa­cie it does not seem to be case of robbery.

“The in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on. We will get a clear picture af­ter tak­ing state­ments of all mem­bers of the fam­ily. We are tak­ing all as­pects into con­sid­er­a­tion,” he added.

Mean­while, Bal­wan Dass and other fam­ily mem­bers in­jured in the in­ci­dent — iden­ti­fied as Ram Krishan, Dharamveer, Bhag­wan Dass and Hari Ram — are be­ing treated at Pathankot civil hos­pi­tal and stated to be out of dan­ger.
