Youth gets 6-year jail for snatching
KARNAL: Sending a strong message to snatchers, a 24-year-old youth convicted of snatching a wallet from a woman in Kurukshetra was awarded six years in jail by the Kurukshetra district court on Wednesday.
While pronouncing the judgment, additional district and sessions judge Subhash Chand Saroi also imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on the convict. District deputy attorney Sashi Bhoria said victim Neelam Rani had filed a police complaint alleging that a youth had snatched her purse when she was in Sector 13 of Kurukshetra on June 21 last year.
She said the purse contained ₹11,000, ATM card and a cheque book. Working on her complaint, the Kurukshetra police traced the accused, who was identified as Gaurav Ahija of Khjur Nagar Panipat and was arrested on July 13, 2017. The police also recovered ₹4,000 from his possession. He was booked under Section 379-A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code.
