50yearold man held for raping maid’s daughter, victim pregnant

KARNAL: The Panipat police have arrested a 50-year-old man of raping a 20-year-old daughter of his domestic help in Israna of Panipat district.

The police said the victim is four months pregnant but had not disclosed the incident to her family until she fell unconscious on Tuesday.

As per the police complaint filed by the mother of the victim, the matter came to light when the victim’s health deteriorated and she was hospitalised. The doctors told her that she was pregnant.

Soon after her medical examination her mother raised the issue with Panipat superintendent of police (SP) Sangeeta Kalia and the latter ordered an investigation under DSP Vijender Singh.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother said she had sent her daughter for work in her place a few months ago as she was unwell.

She also alleged that the accused’s wife and son helped him in raping her daughter by giving her some intoxicant, but the DSP said that allegations against wife and son of the accused could not be proved yet.

On the allegations that the accused had also captured an obscene video of the victim and tried to blackmail her, the DSP said that this needs to be investigated yet.

The DSP told Hindustan Times that the accused, identified as Jagdish Singh, a former security guard at a firm, has been booked under Section 376 (punishment for rape) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SC/ST Act. After the arrest, he was produced in a district court and was sent to judicial custody.
