Six BSF companies to help police during Shahkot byelection

JALANDHAR :Six companies of Border Security Force (BSF) will be deployed to ensure a peaceful, free and fair polling during the Shahkot byelection on May 28. One BSF company has a strength of about 100 personnel.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting to review the security arrangemen­ts for the poll.

The meeting was chaired by general observer Ravi Kant Jain, deputy commission­er Varinder Kumar Sharma and senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar here at the local circuit house. During the meeting, it was decided six companies of the BSF will also be deployed at the polling booths along with the police. BSF personnel will reach Shahkot on May 20.

Besides, six static surveillan­ce teams and three flying squad teams have been constitute­d for keeping a strict vigil over the law and order situation in the segment. Likewise, it was decided that at around 100 locations webcasting would be done by the Election Commission to keep strict vigil over the entire election process. The meeting also decided to deploy around 50 micro observers.

REHEARSALS TO BE VIDEOGRAPH­ED

Meanwhile, to ensure 100% attendance of the polling staff for the rehearsal of Shahkot byelection, DC Varinder Kumar Sharma has asked the officers to make videos of rehearsal done on Sunday.
