Six BSF com­pa­nies to help po­lice dur­ing Shahkot by­elec­tion

JA­LAND­HAR :Six com­pa­nies of Border Se­cu­rity Force (BSF) will be de­ployed to en­sure a peace­ful, free and fair polling dur­ing the Shahkot by­elec­tion on May 28. One BSF com­pany has a strength of about 100 per­son­nel.

A de­ci­sion to this ef­fect was taken at a high-level meet­ing to review the se­cu­rity ar­range­ments for the poll.

The meet­ing was chaired by gen­eral ob­server Ravi Kant Jain, deputy com­mis­sioner Varinder Ku­mar Sharma and se­nior su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice (SSP) Gur­preet Singh Bhullar here at the lo­cal cir­cuit house. Dur­ing the meet­ing, it was de­cided six com­pa­nies of the BSF will also be de­ployed at the polling booths along with the po­lice. BSF per­son­nel will reach Shahkot on May 20.

Be­sides, six static sur­veil­lance teams and three fly­ing squad teams have been con­sti­tuted for keep­ing a strict vigil over the law and or­der sit­u­a­tion in the seg­ment. Like­wise, it was de­cided that at around 100 lo­ca­tions we­b­cast­ing would be done by the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion to keep strict vigil over the en­tire elec­tion process. The meet­ing also de­cided to de­ploy around 50 mi­cro ob­servers.


Mean­while, to en­sure 100% at­ten­dance of the polling staff for the re­hearsal of Shahkot by­elec­tion, DC Varinder Ku­mar Sharma has asked the of­fi­cers to make videos of re­hearsal done on Sun­day.
