Jakhar announces govt job for murdered Cong councillor’s kin
AMRITSAR:PUNJAB Congress president and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar on Monday announced government job for one of the family members of Gurdeep Singh, who was gunned down by three unidentified men at a wrestling arena in the Gol Bagh area of the city on Saturday.
Accompanied by local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and school education minister OP Soni, Jakhar said he made the announcement on behalf of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and a resolution to this effect will be passed by the Amritsar municipal corporation (MC).
He offered condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the accused will be arrested soon.
He blamed the Shiromani Akali Dal (Sad)-led last government’s 10-year rule for ‘bad law and order situation’ as gangsters flourished in Punjab. He said the Congress government is serious about tackling the problem.
Navjot Sidhu said it is the dream of Gurdeep’s younger son Anshdeep Singh (16) to become a sub-inspector in the Punjab Police. “I and OP Soni will recommend his name to enroll him in police as soon as he becomes eligible for the post,” he said.
The Congress leaders also assured the family to provide them a security cover of four policemen.
The Amritsar police will soon bring gangsters Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Bobby Malhotra, lodged in the Hoshiarpur and Bathinda jails — on remand to probe their role in the Congress councillor’s murder.
“We will bring both the gangsters on remand for interrogation after the Operation Bluestar anniversary on June 6 as the police are busy in maintaining law and order,” a senior police official said.
