Laddi’s election from Shahkot challenged in HC
CHANDIGARH : Congress MLA Hardev Singh Laddi’s election from Shahkot has been challenged in Punjab and Haryana high court. The court has put him on notice on the petition of Paramjot Kaur, who had contested as a candidate from the Democratic Bharatiya Samaj Party candidate.
The election was held on May 28 and the result was declared on May 31. It has been alleged that Laddi used illegal means and corrupt practices during the election process and concealed ‘material information’ in his affidavit submitted with the nomination papers.
The court was told that he did not mention his complete bank details, and the date of purchase of the self-acquired property. The dues of property tax, water and sewer bills are pending against the respondent, which have not been paid to date and the respondent has concealed this fact, it has been alleged. The petitioner also alleged discrepancies in this affidavit viz-a-viz earlier affidavits.
Laddi also did not mention that an FIR had been registered against him on May 4 against him in Jalandhar under the Mining and Minerals Development and Regulation Act 1957, the court was told. The petitioner has also levelled allegations against Laddi of not submitting proper details of expenditure incurred by him on the election, which amounts to concealment of material information.
