Kapurthala science city to have spl gallery on ill-effects of drugs

KAPURTHALA : With an aim to create awareness regarding substance abuse and sensitise children about drug menace, the Pushpa Gujral Science City, commonly known as Kapurthala science city, has decided to set up a special gallery showcasing ill-effects of drugs and its addiction.
The gallery will come up at a cost of ₹5 lakh, wherein visual models will be used to explain illeffects of drugs on human bodies.
Science city director-cumdeputy commissioner Mohammad Tayyab proposed the project.
“We have received the approval from the government and will get the funds soon. The gallery will showcase ill-effects along with causes and reasons of drug addiction to the visitors, especially students,” said deputy commissioner Mohammad Tayyab .
He said that visitors will be made aware about substance abuse and the risks that come attached to it.
“From explaining how substance abuse can lead to addiction to what steps can be taken to quit it, everything will be explained in a proper manner,” the DC added.
A trained guide will accompany the visitors and address their queries, the DC said.
SCIENCE COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP HELD
A five-day workshop on science communication through puppetry commenced at science city on Saturday. As many as 40 teachers from government schools across the state participated in the workshop.
DC Tayyab urged the teachers to submit scripts for play on drug abuse to create more awareness. “Two best scripts will be selected and winning teachers will be awarded and their names will also be sent to the state education department for appreciation.” he added.
