Akali-bjp regime gave unemployme­nt allowance to only 939 in nine years: Sidhu

CHANDIGARH : Lashing out at the previous SAD-BJP government, Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said during nine years from 2007-2016, a meagre number of people (939) were give unemployme­nt allowance of ₹16.7 lakh, even though 3.22 lakh unemployed youth were registered with the state government.

“On the contrary, the Badals (former CM Parkash Singh Badal and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal) had spent ₹180 crore on the last year of their government on advertisem­ents for self praise out which ₹30 crore in the last month.

This was advertisem­ent of ₹1 crore a day,” Sidhu told the media.

Referring to the report of comptrolle­r and audit general o the year ending March 31, 2017, Sidhu added, “The previous government violated norms that the Supreme Court had given, in giving these advertisem­ents.”

He demanded an inquiry from the Punjab government into misappropr­iation of funds and violation of norms in giving advertisem­ents.

Sidhu said that the officers who executed the orders of the government then should also be dealt strictly and he had written to the Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh who’s also in-charge of the public relations department.

Referring to Sukhpal Singh Khaira’s removal from the post of leader of opposition, Sidhu said, “With his actions, Kejriwal wants to weaken the party in Punjab and make the SAD the main opposition party.”
