CRPF jawan shot dead at home in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed after suspected militants opened fire at him in his home on Sunday evening in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police officials said.

They said that the militants barged into the house of a local CRPF man, Naseer Ahmad Rather, at Naira village in the evening and shot at him, injuring him critically.

“Naseer was immediatel­y taken to district hospital in Pulwama for medical treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Police has registered a case in this regard and investigat­ion into the matter has been initiated,” a police statement said.

Naseer reportedly was posted with a CRPF battalion in the district and had come home on leave.

The killing comes just a day after a Jammu and Kashmir policeman, who was abducted by suspected militants in Tral area of Pulwama on Friday, was allowed to return home following an appeal by the mother of the cop.

Special police officer (SPO) Mudasir Ahmad Lone was abducted by unknown gunmen from his native village of Chankatar. He was working as a cook at Reshipora police post in Awantipore.

On Tuesday, suspected militants opened fire at security forces’ personnel at Batamaloo near Fire and Emergency Services killing a CRPF constable Shanker Lal of 23 Battalion and wounding another.

Last week, suspected militants killed police constable Mohammad Salim Shah after abducting him from his house in south Kashmir’s Kulgam. A day after the killing, police claimed to have killed three militants, who, they said, were responsibl­e for abduction and killing of the constable.

In the first week of this month, police constable Javeed Ahmad Dar was abducted from his house at Vehil in Shopian district and later killed. Last month, Aurangzeb, an army soldier was abducted from a private vehicle when he was going home for Eid holiday in Shopian.

Later, his body was recovered from a village.
