BJP ready for simultaneous polls in Haryana: Khattar
CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the BJP is ready for assembly elections in the state along with the Lok Sabha polls.
Talking to the media in Rohtak district, Khattar backed the principle of ‘one nation, one election’ but said that it would be possible only with the consent of all political parties and after an amendment in the Constitution.
“The BJP is ready for simultaneous elections in the state,” Khattar said, according to a government spokesperson.
The CM was interacting with mediapersons at the residence of director, Haryana Scheduled Castes and Finance Development Corporation, Sukhbir Chandolia, at Bohar village. Minister of state for cooperation Manish Kumar Grover was also present on this occasion. Khattar said simultaneous polls would provide relief from financial burden caused by holding elections again and again. Apart from this, he said, development works also get affected and delayed due to imposition of the code of conduct during the elections.
“Simultaneous elections could become possible in 2024 if all political parties extend cooperation,” he added.
Khattar said all arrangements had been made for holding municipal corporation elections in the state, which could be held after the completion of delimitation of wards in Sonepat municipal corporation. He said: “The BJP will contest the MC elections on party symbol.”
