CM launches ‘Tu Mera Buddy’ project to tackle drug menace
LUDHIANA/MOHALI:GIVING a call for ‘nashe ton azadi’ (freedom from drugs), Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday launched ‘Tu Mera Buddy’ programme to take the war against drugs to schools and colleges.
The CM unfurled the Tricolour during the state-level function at Guru Nanak Stadium.
The CM said the ‘Tu Mera Buddy’ programme will take the anti-drug campaign to the grassroots level with the participation of students who will spread awareness about the illeffects of substance abuse. He said 80 more outpatient opioid assisted treatment (OOAT) clinics will be set up in the state by September.
Rolling out the Bhai Ghanaiya Sehat Sewa Yojana, the CM handed over cards to some beneficiaries of the scheme aimed at providing cashless healthcare facilities and treatment to members of cooperative societies and their families. Every beneficiary will be entitled to cashless treatment up to ₹2 lakh.
Launching the second phase of the farm debt waiver scheme, Amarinder handed over waiver certificates to 10 farmers to extend waiver of up to ₹2 lakh from commercial banks.
At the district-level Independence Day function in Mohali, health minister Brahm Mohindra announced that Punjab hospitals will soon have biometric attendance system. There have been complaints of absenteeism in healthcare institutions.
17 CONFERRED WITH STATE AWARDS
The CM conferred state awards on 17 persons. The awardees are swimmer Sahil Chopra, chess player Yashvir Goyal, Tarn Taran district programme officer Hardeep Kaur, Eliza Bansal of Lehragaga, Sangrur, wildlife security officer Davinder Singh, industrialists Anil Bharti and Sanjiv Arora, Shalma Sall of Payal sub-division, Power House Youth Club Patiala president Rupinder Kaur, sanitary inspector Sukhpal Singh, artist Gobinder Sohal, powerlifter Jasmeen Kaur, fencers Husnpreet Kaur and Mumtaz, Bahadur Singh of Bullowal Hoshiarpur, Dr Rajnish Kapoor, and DSP Gurjot Singh Klair.
