INLD refutes govt’s claim of unanimity, seeks bill in House

CHANDIGARH:PRESIDENT of the principal opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Ashok Arora, on Friday condemned, what he held, “the false claim” made by Haryana government regarding the unanimity among all political parties about filing special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court regarding the regularisation of contractual employees.

Arora said in a statement that at no point during the meeting convened by the government under the chairmanship of advocate general (AG) Baldev Raj Mahajan on Thursday, did the INLD representative concur with the government’s stand about the employees affected by the Punjab and Haryana high court order.

“The INLD was not even aware as to how and why the government changed its stand from bringing a Bill in the Vidhan Sabha to regularise those employees to filing an SLP,” he said.

“The INLD demands that an adequate Bill be introduced in the Vidhan Sabha to give relief to all employees affected by the high court order,” he said.

Apart from vocally opposing the idea of SLP, he suggested that a comprehensive Bill be brought so as to safeguard the interests of employees affected by the high court order,” Arora added.

He also asked the government to retract its claim which, he said, was contrary to facts and defamatory in nature.

WHAT THE GOVT SAID

Two months after the Punjab and Haryana high court set aside the regularisation of contractual employees, the Haryana government on Thursday decided to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the high court order.

Haryana advocate general (AG) Baldev Raj Mahajan said that a meeting was organised on Thursday with employees union and legal experts of the opposition parties — former AG Hawa Singh Hooda, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) representative Naresh Shekhawat and Union leaders, including those from Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, to deliberate on the issue.

“It has been decided to file an SLP (Special Leave Petition) in the Supreme Court. As decided earlier, the state government will not table a bill for regularising the services of contract employees,” Mahajan had said.
