VICTIM HAD GONE MISSING ON JULY 23, FATHER GOT SUSPICIOUS AFTER HIS CAR WAS FOUND NEAR A CANAL

MORINDA : Police have arrested the brother-in-law and juvenile son of a Rupnagar-based liquor contractor, who was allegedly murdered about a month ago.

The victim identified as Rajinder Singh alias Neeta, 49, of Morinda had gone missing on July 23. His father Gian Singh in his complaint to the police had stated that he had found his son’s car parked near Bhakra Canal at Rauni village near Morinda and suspected that his son had been murdered.

Gian Singh further said his son had strained relations with his wife Karamjit Kaur, who had moved back to her parent’s house four months back. He added that the couple had a son and a daughter. While the son had been living with Karamjit, the daughter stayed with Rajinder.

On July 23, Gian Singh received a phone call from his granddaughter Harsimran Kaur stating that her father had not returned home.

They later found Rajinder’s car near Bhakra Canal at Rauni village.

Rupnagar superintendent of police (SP) Balwinder Singh Randhawa said that during investigation, they found evidence against Rajinder’s brother-in-law (wife’s brother) Jatinder Pal Singh alias Mantri of Behrampur Zimidara village, victim’s juvenile son and another person identified as Pala of Dhadhi village.

While Pala is on the run, police have arrested Jatinder Pal Singh and Rajinder’s son under Section 302 (murder) and 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code.

The SP added that the duo had confessed to strangulating Rajinder and said that they had killed him as he was “harassing” Karamjit.

The victim’s body is yet to be recovered, police said.
