1 held for back-to-back gunpoint snatchings in Amritsar, 2 on run
TRIO HAD SNATCHED A WOMAN’S PURSE CONTAINING ₹2,500, A MOBILE PHONE AT GUNPOINT
AMRITSAR: Police arrested a man for allegedly committing two back-to-back snatchings at gunpoint at Khalchian and Muchhal village on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Gurnam Singh of Nanaksar locality in Tarn Taran while two of his accomplices, who have been identified as Sooraj aka Rahul of Gokalpur Mohalla and Gopi of Mohalla Guru Ka Khooh in Tarn Taran, are still absconding.in the first case, the car-borne accused had intercepted a cyclist Pawan Dhingra of Ludhiana near Khalchian village, and had snatched his bag containing ₹15,000, two mobile phones and a credit card at gunpoint.
In the second case, the trio had snatched a woman’s purse containing ₹2,500, a mobile phone and few important documents at gunpoint.
Senior superintendent of police (Ssp-rural) Parampal Singh said, “A police team had been conducting raids at several places, during which one of the accused Gurnam Singh was arrested while two of his accomplices managed to flee.”
The SSP said, “The other two will also be arrested soon. A manhunt has been launched to nab them” A case under Sections 379 B (snatching by force) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act was registered against the accused persons at Khalchian and Tarsikka police stations.
