‘Upbeat’ Cong calls party meet on Oct 8
JAIPUR: With the announcement of assembly election schedule on Saturday, the Congress has stepped up poll preparations in Rajasthan. The state party president, Sachin Pilot has called first meeting of the party’s Pradesh Election Committee on October 8.
On Thursday night, the Congress had announced various committees for the election process.
The party officials said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi will come to Rajasthan again on a two-day visit beginning October 9. On the first day of his visit, he will organise a roadshow, starting from Dholpur to Dausa via Bharatpur.
The party’s screening committee has already started discussions on survey reports and list of probable candidates submitted by the AICC secretaries. The committee plans to start submitting names of the candidates from October 12. The first list of the candidates is expected by the month end.
State Congress chief Sachin Pilot attacked Raje for announcing free electricity to the state farmers, hours before the code of conduct came into effect on Saturday.
“This shows the government’s desperation and is an unethical announcement. People understand everything and nothing of this will help them (BJP leaders) now,” he said.
Pilot said, “We welcome the announcement of the poll process. This will put to an end to the misuse of taxpayers’ money by the government.”
Congress MP and chairperson of the party’s campaign committee, Raghu Sharma said, “Our party is fully prepared for the upcoming elections. In last five years since the BJP government formed in Rajasthan, Congress has won on majority of seats that went to bypolls.”
