Gang busted: Four drug peddlers held

JALANDHAR: Four drug peddlers were arrested at Nurmahal in Jalandhar on Saturday, said police.

The police recovered one .32 revolver, one pistol 7.65 bore, 15 live cartridges, 400gm heroin and ₹2.45 lakh from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Vishesh Kumar, 27, of Sangrur, Harpreet Singh, 29, of Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh, 25, of Faridkot and Kulwinder Singh, 28,of Hoshiarpur.

SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said, acting on a tip-off, a checkpoint was deployed near Bidhipur railway crossing and Maqsudhan station house officer (SHO) Ramandeep Singh got hold of three accussed travelling in a car with drugs and weapons.

“They were going to sell drugs to one Kuldeep Singh. Later, he was also arrested with ₹2.45 cash money near Adda Nurmahal,” the SSP said.

He said the accused had confessed to their crime. The SHO said 13 criminal cases, including a murder case, were pending against accused Vijay and 13 cases, including a case under the Arms act, were pending against accused Harpreet.

A case under Sections 22/29/61/85 of the NDPS Act and various Sections of the Arms Act has been registered.

SSP Mahal said, from July 13 to October 19, police have arrested 346 drug peddlers, including 24 women and recovered 14 kg heroin, 1,330 kg poppy husk, 4.88 kg opium and other drugs.
