Free education to wards of police martyrs in Haryana

CHANDIGARH : The Haryana government will provide free education up to Class 12 to the children of police martyrs in police public schools, director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu said on Sunday.

Paying homage to the police and central armed police forces personnel who laid their lives in line of duty, on the occasion of ‘Police Commemorat­ion Day’ at Panchkula, the DGP said the state government had taken a series of steps for the welfare of police personnel.

He said anti-terrorist force ‘Kavach’ would soon be set up under which 150 commandos of police will be trained to deal with any situation.

They will get special training from the National Security Guards (NSG) at Manesar.

The DGP said special ex-gratia grant of Rs 30 lakh is being given to family members of police per- sonnel who die while fighting with anti-social elements or saving the public life and property during natural calamities.

A financial assistance of Rs15 lakh is given to terminally injured police personnel, Rs 10 lakh in case of major injury and Rs 5 lakh for minor injury. Besides, Rs 30 lakh is also being given under a special agreement of accidental death insurance cover with HDFC bank, he said.

The DGP said two brave police personnel of the state have sacrificed their lives while dischargin­g their duty in the past one year.

On this occasion, Panchkula commission­er of police Charu Bali read out the names of police martyrs. DGP (headquarte­rs) KK Mishra, DGP (Human Rights Commission) KP Singh, DGP (crime) PK Agrawal, ADGP (operations) AS Chawla, inspector general of police HS Doon were among other senior police officers and officials present on this occasion.
