PURNIA : Uniden­ti­fied crim­i­nals shot dead a 62-year-old busi­ness­man of Karnal (Haryana), deal­ing in sale of agri­cul­ture tools for last two years, in town area on Fri­day evening.

Purnia SP Vishal Sharma said, “On the ba­sis of com­plaint of vic­tim’s son Aman Kapoor, a named FIR has been lodged against three per­sons. Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case.”

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent took place when two uniden­ti­fied crim­i­nals wear­ing hel­met en­tered Kr­ishna Mo­han Kapoor’s shop at around 7 pm on Fri­day and fired on him from close range. Kapoor was rushed to a hospi­tal, where he was de­clared brought dead.

“With the help of the CCTV footage we are try­ing to iden­tify the crim­i­nals,” the SP said.

Son of the vic­tim said, “While we were shift­ing to a new rented house the crim­i­nals shot my fa­ther who was in­side the shop.” He did not rule out busi­ness ri­valry be­hind the in­ci­dent. “Two days back we were threat­ened with dire con­se­quences by some lo­cals and asked to wind up the busi­ness in Purnia.”

Lo­cal peo­ple said the vic­tim was quite pop­u­lar among farm­ers and this might be the rea­son be­hind his killing.

Pres­i­dent of Purnia chap­ter of cham­ber of com­merce, Ja­gat Lal Vais­hantri de­manded im­me­di­ate ar­rest of the as­sailants. He has also de­manded se­cu­rity for the busi­ness com­mu­nity.
