Prez post: Nirmal Singh to lock horns with Sarabjit Singh
AMRITSAR: Two groups will be contesting for the Chief Khalsa Diwan(ckd) general elections ,scheduled for December 2, as no third contestant has filed nomination papers and no one from the contesting factions has withdrawn the papers or faced rejection.the contest was triangular in the by-elections held on March 25 for the posts of president, vice president and honourary secretary after former president Charanjit Singh Chadha was expelled from the organisation, due to a video row.
After two groups — Dr Santokh Singh and advocate Jaswinder Singh — formed an alliance, the fight will be between them and the third group of Bhag Singh Ankhi and Rajmohinder Singh Majitha. Both the warring groups have started campaign to garner support of the members for which, they are mobilising supporters and meting CKD members.
Sarabjit Singh and Nirmal Singh will be the candidates from both the warring groups. Sarabjit Singh was elected as vice-president in the by-elections.the alliance has fielded Harminder Singh for the post of resident president. Ardiman Singh Mahal and Kuljit Singh Sahni are candidates for the posts of vice president which are two in number, while Santokh Singh Sethi and advocate Jaswinder Singh are the contenders for the posts of honourary secretaries, also two seats.
Other candidates of the third group are Sukhdev Singh Mattewal (resident president), Amarjit Singh Ludhiana (vice-president), Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar (vice president), EX-MLA Sawinder Singh Kathunangal (honourary secretary) and Surinder Singh (honourary secretary).
The poll officers — principal (retd) Baljinder Singh, Iqbal Singh Lalpura and Jaswinder Singh Dhillon—have found 433 members eligible to vote in the elections.
