Prez post: Nir­mal Singh to lock horns with Sarab­jit Singh

AM­RIT­SAR: Two groups will be con­test­ing for the Chief Khalsa Diwan(ckd) gen­eral elec­tions ,sched­uled for December 2, as no third con­tes­tant has filed nom­i­na­tion pa­pers and no one from the con­test­ing fac­tions has with­drawn the pa­pers or faced re­jec­tion.the con­test was tri­an­gu­lar in the by-elec­tions held on March 25 for the posts of pres­i­dent, vice pres­i­dent and hon­ourary sec­re­tary af­ter for­mer pres­i­dent Cha­ran­jit Singh Chadha was ex­pelled from the or­gan­i­sa­tion, due to a video row.

Af­ter two groups — Dr San­tokh Singh and advocate Jaswinder Singh — formed an al­liance, the fight will be be­tween them and the third group of Bhag Singh Ankhi and Ra­j­mo­hin­der Singh Ma­jitha. Both the war­ring groups have started cam­paign to gar­ner sup­port of the mem­bers for which, they are mo­bil­is­ing sup­port­ers and met­ing CKD mem­bers.

Sarab­jit Singh and Nir­mal Singh will be the can­di­dates from both the war­ring groups. Sarab­jit Singh was elected as vice-pres­i­dent in the by-elec­tions.the al­liance has fielded Har­min­der Singh for the post of res­i­dent pres­i­dent. Ardi­man Singh Ma­hal and Kuljit Singh Sahni are can­di­dates for the posts of vice pres­i­dent which are two in num­ber, while San­tokh Singh Sethi and advocate Jaswinder Singh are the con­tenders for the posts of hon­ourary sec­re­taries, also two seats.

Other can­di­dates of the third group are Sukhdev Singh Mat­te­wal (res­i­dent pres­i­dent), Amar­jit Singh Ludhiana (vice-pres­i­dent), Dr In­der­bir Singh Ni­j­jar (vice pres­i­dent), EX-MLA Sawinder Singh Kathu­nan­gal (hon­ourary sec­re­tary) and Surinder Singh (hon­ourary sec­re­tary).

The poll of­fi­cers — prin­ci­pal (retd) Baljin­der Singh, Iqbal Singh Lalpura and Jaswinder Singh Dhillon—have found 433 mem­bers el­i­gi­ble to vote in the elec­tions.
