Abhay calls INLD meet to counter nephews’ rally

INLD MAINTAINS THE MEETING IS AIMED AT DISCUSSING STRATEGY FOR UPCOMING CIVIC BODY POLLS

CHANDIGARH: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala has called a meeting of the party’s executive committee on Sunday to counter his nephews’ rally at Jind on the same day.

While the party maintains that the meeting has been called to discuss INLD’S strategy for the upcoming municipal corporation elections, many are seeing at it as a move aimed at countering the first major political gathering being held by Hisar MP Dushyant and party’s youth leader Digvijay, the sons of Abhay’s elder brother Ajay Chautala who have announced to launch a new political outfit in Jind on Sunday.

When contacted, INLD state president Ashok Arora said that there was no truth in the supposition that the meeting was called to counter the Jind rally. “It has been called to assign party leaders their duties for mayoral polls in the state,” he said.

The two sides in the Chautala clan have been on a sparring trail ever since Dushyant and Digvijay were expelled from the party on November 2 for indiscipline at Gohana rally on October 7. INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala had also dissolved the party’s student wing Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO) while expelling his grandsons. The problems escalated further after Ajay was also removed from the party on November 14 for antiparty activities.

The then national president of INSO, Digvijay had also recently taken over MLA flat No 17, which used to be INLD head office till recently and held an INSO meeting. The INLD had vacated its state office it occupied for about 13 years, from MLA Flat No 17, Sector 3, to Flat No 47, Sector 4, as the former was allotted to Naina Chautala, the wife of Ajay.

Ajay is serving imprisonment in the JBT recruitment case along with his father and former four-time chief minister Om Prakash Chautala since 2013.

Meanwhile, Dushyant Chautala remained tight-lipped when asked about details about his new party.

“We will announce its name only on Sunday. The new party would have four active organisations under its wings.”
