HC up­holds life term of builder, who killed man to fake his death

CHANDIGARH: The Pun­jab and Haryana high court has up­held life im­pris­on­ment to a Delhi builder who to fake his death, picked up a man, killed him and put him on fire in Ku­ruk­shetra, in July 2013.

The high court bench of jus­tice Ra­jiv Sharma and HS Sidhu up­held the trial court or­der observing that he com­mit­ted mur­der as his busi­ness was run­ning into losses and cus­tomers were ask­ing for their money.

He was awarded life sen­tence in Novem­ber 2014 by a Ku­ruk­shetra court. The ac­cused, Ra­jen­der Ku­mar Ba­tra, picked up a man from Raja Gar­den in Delhi in July 2013, killed him with a knife and brought him to Ku­ruk­shetra, where he poured kerosene on him and then put car on fire. The burnt car was spot­ted by lo­cals.

As per the po­lice, they found Ba­tra at his res­i­dence, six months af­ter the oc­cur­rence of in­ci­dent on Fe­bru­ary 10, 2014.
