GREATER NOIDA: Body of a 65-yearold man was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented house in NSG Society, Greater Noida, on Wednesday, 20 days after he allegedly took his life.

Neither the family, neighbours nor society checked on the senior citizen in the past 20 days.

As per police, Narayan Kumar Shende, a retired manager who worked for Castrol India Ltd, was living alone for the past two years after separating from his wife.

The body was discovered by another senior citizen.

“Shende did not interact with anyone in the society. He would meet another senior citizen, Karan Singh, of Delhi, when the latter visited the society to meet his son. On January 1, when Singh called Shende, his phone was unreachable. On Wednesday, when Singh tried knocking on his door, there was no response. Singh went around to the rear of the house and saw Shende hanging from a ceiling fan in one of the rooms. He immediately informed me and I called on the 100 number,” Praveen Kataria, deputy secretary, NSG Society, Greater Noida, said.

“Prima facie, we believe the body is over 20 days old. The reports are awaited. We found a suicide note in which Shende just said that he was taking his own life,” Vineet Jaiswal, SP (rural), said. Amey Shende revealed that his father had separated from his mother Madhuri two years ago; he did not keep in touch with his children either. Amey further claimed that he had not been well since losing ₹25 lakh in the share market. “After his retirement, my father made it clear that he wanted to live separately, and moved to NSG Society. He had recently lost ₹25 lakh in the share market and was disturbed about it. I last spoke to him one-and-ahalf months ago,” Amey said.

Dr Anurag Bhargav, chief medical officer, Gautam Budh Nagar, said Shende could have killed himself earlier. “Our findings will depend on the autopsy report,” he said.
