AMRITSAR : Ten days after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), senior Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka launched the online registration drive for Sikh Sewak Army (SSA) on Saturday.

Phoolka launched the drive from the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple. Phoolka and his supporters did ‘ardas’ at the Akal Takht and got himself registered as the first member of the SSA though his mobile phone.

Phoolka, who has played an instrumental role in getting the culprits of the 1984 anti-sikh riots punished, had announced on Wednesday that he will raise an army of volunteers under the banner of Sikh Sewak Sangathan, a religious body he floated with an aim to rid the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) of Badal family’s control.

After launching the drive, Phoolka said, “SSA is wing of Sikh Sewak Sangathan formed to rid the SGPC of Badal family’s control and to work against the menace of drugs in Punjab. The registrations will be done online (www.sikhsewakarmy.com).”he said the SSA will have two units. “First unit will work to free SGPC of political interference. This unit will have Sikhs with unshorn hair. The second unit will work to end the drug menace in Punjab. Any person who believes in the ideology of SSA can become its member.”

Phoolka also made it clear that he would not fight any election until the SGPC is free of political interference.
