PATIALA : Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday underlined the need for people to make judicious use of their voting right to rid the nation of “anti-democratic forces”.

Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp)-led Union government, the CM said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will give citizens a chance to “save themselves and the country from the divisive and destructiv­e policies of the central government by bringing in the much-needed political change in the system”. He was addressing the gathering after hoisting the Tricolour at the Republic Day function here.

Amarinder said the Congress government was well on its way to implement various pre-poll promises to bring Punjab back on the “path of peace, progress and prosperity”, which he alleged the previous Akali-bjp government had destroyed.

Underlinin­g his government’s focus on youth and farmers, the CM said he believed if the “naujawan” and “kisan” could prosper, the state would make new strides in developmen­t.

Lamenting the shortfall in procuremen­t of foodgrains by the Food Corporatio­n of India, Amarinder said if the central agency failed to pick up wheat soon, the state would have to make alternativ­e arrangemen­ts for storage.
