‘Healthcare scheme covering 43 lakh families coming soon’

JALANDHAR:PUNJAB health minister Brahm Mohindra said the state government would soon launch universal healthcare scheme under which treatment of 1330 ailments would be provided free of cost to the 43 lakhs families of the state.

Addressing the gathering after unfurling national flag on Saturday at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, the minister, said that under the leadership of chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the scheme would be unveiled in the state soon.

He was accompanie­d by the deputy commission­er Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commission­er of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

“Under the scheme, health insurance worth ₹5 lakh would be provided to the beneficiar­ies. This scheme would be instrument­al in providing quality healthcare facilities to the people,” said Brahm Mohindra.

Listing the achievemen­ts of the state government, the minister said that the state government is according top priority to the health sector and several pathbreaki­ng initiative­s have been taken in this regard.

“Apart from initiating major recruitmen­t drives, efforts have also been made to spruce up the infrastruc­tural developmen­t in the government health centres. In a big reprieve to the people, the state government has made tests for tuberculos­is, blood, hepatitis-c and malaria along with dialysis in the government hospitals free,” the health minister added.

Later on, the minister also felicitate­d eminent freedom fighters Dev Vrat Sharma, Prem Sagar and Jawahar Lal ,who were present on the occasion.
