Gangster Channa held with drugs, firearms
JALANDHAR : The joint team of Jalandhar counter intelligence wing and Hoshiarpur Police on Tuesday arrested infamous gangster Jaspreet Singh, alias Channa, 30, of Hoshiarpuria, and recovered two illegal weapons, 33 live cartridges and 755gm narcotic powder from his possession.
Addressing a press conference here, counter intelligence additional inspector general (AIG) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said Channa, who is wanted to police in many cases, was coming to his home at Gokul Nagar in Hoshiarpur, in a Maruti A-star car. The AIG said acting on tipoff, he along with his team, conducted a special checking at Bharat Nagar T-point near the Bhangi bridge, and nabbed the accused. Also, 755gm narcotic powder and illegal weapons, including a .32 bore pistol, a .315 bore revolver and 33 live cartridges, were recovered from his possession, said Khakh.
The AIG said the accused confessed that he was involved in more than 18 cases, during the last 10 years of his criminal history, and he was one of the criminals involved in more than eight cases of murder and attempt to murder. He said that as per the investigation, Channa had procured the illegal weapons from Up-based weapon smugglers. A case under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act, and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act, was registered. CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced a high-powered committee to prepare a comprehensive action plan to boost the dairy sector with the aim of supplementing the income of farmers in a result-oriented manner. He asked the animal husbandry department to complete the formalities for setting up the five-member committee, an official spokesperson disclosed after a meeting chaired by the CM to review the progress of various state development projects , an official statement said.
