LAWYERS TO ABSTAIN FROM WORK ON FEB 12
CHANDIGARH: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana (BCPH) on Friday said lawyers will abstain from work on February 12 in support of a call given by the Bar Council of India (BCI). In a press conference in Chandigarh, BCPH chairman Vijender Singh Ahlawat said lawyers of district Bar associations in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and those members of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar association will abstain from work. BCI is demanding budgetary provisions of ₹5,000 crore for lawyers and litigants’ welfare in annual budget to implement insurance cover for the lawyers and their families, ₹10,000 stipend for needy new entrants for up to five years of their practice. He further said that a march would be held from high court to governor’s house to press for their demands. There are a lakh registered lawyers with BCPH.
