SC NO TO PUT ON HOLD 10% EWS QUOTA
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday once again refused to put on hold the Centre’s order granting a 10% quota in government jobs and college seats to candidates from economically weaker sections (EWS) in the general category.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi issued a notice to the Centre the petition questioning validity of a Constitutional amendment that enabled quota.
The rat-hole mining involves digging small holes into the ground to extract coal.
Prasad alleged a lethargic approach on the part of the authorities is delaying the rescue operations. In a status report submitted before the court, the government had said the possibility of rescuing the trapped miners was remote and that efforts were underway to recover the dismembered bodies.
