AMBALA: The Ambala Can­ton­ment po­lice have booked a man work­ing in Chandi­garh for al­legedly sub­ject­ing his wife to cru­elty.

The woman, who be­longs to Ambala Cantt, al­leged that her hus­band has been mercilessly beat­ing her and her in-laws have been ha­rass­ing her for dowry. They also cheated her fam­ily mem­bers by telling lies be­fore the mar­riage.

She said they had a love af­fair, but had gone for an ar­ranged mar­riage with the con­sent of their fam­i­lies in De­cem­ber 2016.

“In my wed­ding, my par­ents had spent enough money and had also given a car to my hus­band. After the mar­riage, we shifted to Bal­tana in Mohali, where her in-laws started ha­rass­ing here for dowry. They claimed that they were not sat­is­fied with what they got as dowry from her fam­ily,” she al­leged.

She added, “I came to know that my hus­band has an ex­tra­mar­i­tal af­fair. My hus­band has been threat­en­ing me of dire con­se­quences if I dis­close the mat­ter to any­one. At present, I am liv­ing alone in Ambala and work­ing on a con­trac­tual ba­sis. My hus­band has not been giv­ing any ex­penses to me and I am lived un­der con­stant men­tal stress and phys­i­cal ha­rass­ment.”

A case has been reg­is­tered un­der Sec­tions 323, 406 and 498-A against the hus­band and mother-in-law of the com­plainant at Ambala Cantt po­lice sta­tion.

Ambala Cantt SHO Vi­jay Ku­mar said they had re­ceived the com­plaint through Ambala women cell and reg­is­tered a case against the ac­cused.
