Groom mar­ries hours after death of fa­ther, four rel­a­tives

RO­HTAK: In a dra­matic turn of events, a man on Satur­day solem­nised his mar­riage in Re­wari hours after his fa­ther and four other rel­a­tives were killed in a road mishap.

Ji­ten­der Saini, a res­i­dent of Beri in Jha­j­jar, was to marry in Re­wari on Fri­day night. Around 10 cars from his vil­lage were go­ing to Re­wari as part of baraat for the wed­ding.

How­ever, when one of the cars, in which Ji­ten­der’s fa­ther Ra­jen­der Saini was trav­el­ling, reached Gan­gay­ach toll plaza on NH-71, the driver re­port­edly lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle due to tyre burst and rammed into a truck com­ing from the op­po­site di­rec­tion.

Ra­jen­der, 60, Papen­der, 52, Daksh, 7, Prachi, 7, and Kaku, 5, were killed while two oth­ers sit­ting in the car were in­jured and ad­mit­ted to a hospi­tal. The in­ci­dent oc­curred just five km from the venue of the wed­ding.

Cel­e­bra­tions turned into mourn­ing as the news of the mishap reached the rel­a­tives. Around five hours after the mishap, Ji­ten­der, on the ad­vice of el­der rel­a­tives of his fam­ily, agreed to solem­nise the mar­riage.

A CCTV of the ac­ci­dent has also emerged, which shows the speed­ing car ram­ming into the truck that was al­most sta­tion­ary after col­lect­ing its ticket from the toll plaza.
