Mumbai blast convict Hanif dies at Nagpur jail

NAGPUR: Mohammad Hanif Syed (56), one of the three convicts sentenced to death in the 2003 Mumbai twin bomb blasts, died at the government-run medical college hospital here on Sunday.

According to central jail authoritie­s, the health of the Mohd Syed suddenly deteriorat­ed and he was rushed to medical college and hospital on Saturday night where he died of heart attack on Sunday morning.

Syed, a resident of Andheri in Mumbai, his wife Fehmida and third conspirato­r Ashraf Ansari were put behind bars for planting bombs on August 25, 2003, near Vile Parle railway station.

The incident claimed the lives of 54 people while 244 others were injured.
