Rlys approves ₹227-cr elevated track for narrow gauge train in Pathankot
THE TRAIN LEADS TO CLOSURE OF NINE RAILWAY GATES SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE MUNICIPAL LIMITS OF PATHANKOT NEARLY TWELVE TIMES A DAY
PATHANKOT: The railways has decided to construct an elevated track for narrow gauge train, famous as toy train, in Pathankot, much to the reprieve of the residents who were demanding shifting the track out of the city. Railways has cited helplessness in shifting the track out of the city, hence it decided to build and elevated track, read a railways communiqué.
TRAIN OPERATION AND INCONVENIENCE
The train shuttles between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar.
The train leads to closure of nine railway gates simultaneously in the municipal limits of Pathankot nearly twelve times a day causing traffic chaos for hours.
The railways in its communiqué has claimed that the 3.5 kms track would be elevated at a cost of around ₹226.77 crore, in which, the state would also contribute MLA Pathankot Amit Vij said.
CREDIT WAR
Meanwhile, the development sparked a credit war among politicians.
“We (the state government) have already given ₹34 lakh to Consultancy Engineers Associate, Panchkula, and the rest of the sum to be contributed by the state government, have been approved by chief minister Captain Amarinder singh,” said the Pathankot legislator.
Kavita Khanna, wife of late MP Vinod Khanna, who is in race for ticket? called a press conference to take the credit while a press note from the district public relation officer from local legislator Amit Vij mentioned that the decision came with the concerted efforts of local Congress MP Sunil Jakhar, who took the matter with the railway minister Piyush Goel.
Meanwhile, Jakhar said that this should not be considered as a victory of any political party, but should be seen as a victory of locals, who were facing problems for years.
